About Us

Our Band was established in 1967 by a group of Josephians, including Mr Julian Eramela, our Conductor in Residence. Being the most prestigious and the most historical ensemble in the school, we aim for excellence in music, as well as promoting music to Josephians and the general public. We offer top-class training and numerous performance opportunities to our members to enhance their musical horizons and gain valuable experiences.

Our goals are being achieved. For excellence in music, we have obtained honourable reputation by capturing prizes, trophies and awards throughout the last 48 years. Fruitful results have been gained by healthy competition with other schools in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. From the Dr Karl Hohner Shield captured 34 years ago to the RTHK Trophies we captured recently; we have proved ourselves to be one of the best Secondary School Ensembles in Hong Kong.

For promoting music, we have given recitals in every large and small concert halls in Hong Kong. During term time, we regularly perform in school functions including Prize Giving Days and Lunchtime Concerts, not to mention our Open Days and our Annual School Concerts. We have also been invited by various organisations including The Education Bureau, Cyberport and the Peak Tower. Recently, we have also had a cameo performance with the famous songwriter and singer Mr Chiu Tsang Hei, who was a former member while he studied in SJC.
