DESCRIPTIONS

You may not know about our aim of organising the activities. Let's introduce our aim for functions by the following table.?

Recruitment Week

Executive Committee members will work on shift during recesses, lunch breaks and the time after school to answer enquiries from students about Literature Connection. They will help with the application procedure if any student decides to join our club. The proposed membership fee is $20.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM will be held on 12th October, 2006 (Thursday) during lunchtime in the AV Room. There will be a PowerPoint presentation about the year plan of Literature Connection. A notebook computer and a projector will be needed for the presentation. Before the meeting, all students will be given a list of recommended secondhand bookstores as references to promote their interest in reading. The booking of IT equipment will be requested 5 days in advance through Mr. A. Chan. Ms M. Y. Chow will be present to supervise the use of the equipment. Membership fees will also be collected during the AGM.

Poetry contest

Students from F.1-3 will be invited to write poems, in Chinese and/ or English, using the designated style and meter of poetry and literary composition. For Chinese, they can compose a Chinese free verse (新詩) or a Ci (詞). For English, they can compose a sonnet or a free verse. The competition guidelines will be given to them before Christmas holiday starts and language teachers will then collect the works from students after the Christmas holiday. For outstanding works, they will be published on the Literature Connection board and the school magazine.

Drama by the Hong Kong Repertory Threatre (香港話劇團)

Ms Y. F. Wong and Ms M. Y. Chow will be responsible for arranging this activity. The budget for this activity is $2500. The Chinese Department will sponsor $1000 while the remaining $1500 will be collected from the class funds of the participants. The target group will be F. 1-3 students. The event will take place in the New Hall. The duration of the drama has not been confirmed yet so the number of lessons skipped cannot be confirmed at this moment.

Counter on the Open Day

Games played by ancient Chinese people will be introduced into the Counter. These include Tou hu (投壺) and riddle-guessing.

Outing to Hong Kong literature spots

The idea is derived from A Walk to Hong Kong Literature Spots (香港文學散步) written by Xiao Si (小思). Hong Kong is a place where writers has came, stayed and left footprints. We have already contacted Xiao Si and she has promised to give advice on this activity. A route will be drawn up and students will travel from place to place by coach. The executive members will take turn to be tour guides for introducing the place and answering questions raised by students. The activity will be held on Saturday, while the maximum number of participants is 30. F. 1-3 students will be our target group. Circulars will be issued to parents for their consent.

Visit to secondhand bookstores

A group of 10-20 students will be led to 2-4 secondhand bookstores. We have chosen secondhand bookstores because we believe that the book prices are cheaper. We would contact the shopkeepers beforehand to see if they can give us any forms of discount if students decide to buy books from the stores. All students from F. 1-7 are welcome. Circulars will be issued to parents for their consent.

Talk by an invited writer

We would invite an English writer for a talk on writing skills. $500 will be given to the writer for transportation fees. The target group would be F. 1-3 and the talk will take place in the New Hall. The duration of the talk is estimated to be 40 minutes. As a result, F. 1-3 students will need to skip one lesson for the talk.

Showing of movies adapted from literature

The movies will be shown monthly in the AV Room. Proposed films include Pride and Prejudice and Hong Gao Liang (紅高粱). The movies will be played during lunch breaks and after school. To save money, the movies will be borrowed from teachers or executive members. A Public Announcement will be made before the movie is shown
